About the team
The Commercial Services team within the Infrastructure and Place division consist of over 300 people. This team is responsible for all commercial aspects, from concept to delivery and close out of some of the country's largest infrastructure projects.
Right now, we have an exciting opportunity for a number of Commercial Managers to oversee the commercial management of various projects and programs. The roles will be located mainly in the Sydney metropolitan area but there are also regional roles which can be located in various regional offices including Grafton, Parkes, Wollongong, Coffs Harbour or Newcastle.
Reporting into a Commercial Director the primary purpose of the role is to ensure the commercial protection of the branch and its portfolio of projects via its contractual management arrangements and dispute resolution strategies. The role ensures the program's contract and commercial management align with Transport policy and sound commercial practices.
The role will include but not limited to:
- Implementing the commercial management framework including negotiation, dispute management, insurance management, fraud and corruption prevention, contractor performance management
- Lead, manage and facilitate implementation and deployment of a program contract management framework and dispute avoidance requirements that comply with the Commercial Management Framework, government guidelines, policies and align with industry best practice
- Implement program level advice on commercial matters, contract negotiations, contract risk allocation, probity, cost benchmarking and reporting and value for money measurement to support the achievement of best practice compliant contracts
- Lead and implement program dispute prevention and resolution strategies and provide dispute resolution leadership to implement best practice and minimise costs and project issues arising from disputes
- Ensure effective program commercial risk management is implemented, leading the development of delivery strategies and contract risk profiles

You are a hands-on, well-organised Commercial Manager with experience in a similar role in either government or the private sector. Tertiary qualified in engineering, commerce or relevant disciplines you will have demonstrated ability to negotiate, devise and justify appropriately safe solutions to constrained physical and budget situations that require management of the risk associated with managing interface requirements. A strong communicator you will have the ability to quickly and efficiently get across the issues which arise. Experience in the development, delivery and construction of large scale transport infrastructure projects including Design and Construct (DC) delivery models is critical to the success of this role.
