The school is a very unique and boutique aboriginal girls boarding school in the beautiful Yarra Valley community on the outer eastern edge of Melbourne. The school educates between 40-60 Aboriginal girls from all over Australia who board at the school for their high school education.
An Aboriginal community initiative, the school was established in 1983 on Aboriginal-owned land. It is governed by Aboriginal people. The school seeks preferred futures for young women who present with complex issues. Girls present at the school having experienced individual factors which have impacted on their ability to focus on education. Students live and study in a supportive and nurturing environment that fosters positive cultural identity and individual potential.
The school operates in an Aboriginal framework based on Aboriginal values. It provides a holistic education program integrating education, culture and wellbeing ensuring students have the opportunity to progress academically, socially, emotionally, culturally and spiritually. The school aims to harness the potential of girls to learn and develop the academic skills, knowledge, confidence and attitude as future leaders.
In Years 7-10, the ACARA curriculum is taught The VCAL curriculum is offered for students in Years 11/12. Students are grouped into Years 7/8, 9/10 and 11/12 classes.
Sport (mainly AFL at the moment) and wellbeing are a strong focus as is the We walk together ethos of the school.
We are seeking a Learning Support teacher aide to work alongside teachers in the classroom as well as taking students for 1:1 and small group work in literacy and numeracy.
The role is offered full-time and permanently commencing ASAP or from Term 3.
We are seeking an energetic, passionate and team-oriented educator with experience of working with teenage / high school students with trauma backgrounds. We are seeking an educator with the proven capacity to de-escalate situations and create a safe and encouraging space in which students can work towards their potential.
- Certificate IV in Education Support (or equivalent)
- Experience of teaching/tutoring/coaching/supporting high-school aged students
- Experience of working with aboriginal teenagers (desirable)
