Job Description

  • Job Title Mining - Operations

Silver Lake Resources is an all-Australian, ASX listed gold and copper producing and exploration company operating in the Eastern Goldfields and Murchison districts of Western Australia. Silver Lake’s key assets are the Mount Monger Gold Camp, located 50 km south east of Kalgoorlie, the Deflector Gold Copper Mine, located 160km east of Geraldton and the Rothsay Gold Project in the Southern Murchison region of WA. Silver Lake’s projects establish them as a multi-asset, mid-tier gold producer with the financial strength to be a leading growth-focused gold company.

Rothsay Gold Mine is one of Australia’s newest high grade underground gold mines located approximately 300kms north-north east of Perth and 85km south-east of Silver Lake’s Deflector Operations. Rothsay commenced underground mining late 2020 and comprises of two declines accessing a narrow vein gold deposit.  The decline and level accesses are ‘conventional’ whereas the ore drives and production are of a much smaller scale.  Ore drive sizes are only 2.5mW x 3.0mH with longhole stoping widths of less than 1.2mW. This is the perfect mine to hone your skills and gain experience in true, high efficiency narrow vein mining.

We are looking for a motivated and solutions-focused Alternate Underground Manager to be a key part of Rothsay’s success. Working back-to-back with the Mine Manager/Registered Manager, the Alternate Underground Manager will also hold the Alternate Registered Manager’s role each swing, and be responsible on a daily basis for the control and supervision of the mine and all mining operations inclusive of the camp, airport, environmental duties, etc.  This includes management of several contractors from mining through to accommodation.

This role will also play a key part in achieving company production and safety targets and ensuring team cohesion and common focus.

Responsibilities will also include:

  • Statutory responsibilities associated with being appointed the Alternate UG Manager and the Alternate Registered Manager
  • Management of day-to-day production activities
  • Management of ancillary activities (camp, airport, etc)
  • Effectively mentor, coach and develop members of the Technical Services team
  • Oversee the development and implementation of all mining instructions, designs, plans, etc
  • Review and improve standard processes and systems for mine planning and production
  • Work closely with the mining contractor to ensure performance is in line with the contract and mine plan
  • Work closely with ancillary contractors to ensure performance and compliance to associated regulations
  • Identify and complete mine infrastructure and optimisation projects as required
  • Produce accurate end of month reconciliation reports and contractor claims and accruals
  • Prepare annual budget and monitor ongoing cost against approved budget
  • Provide visible safety leadership and drive productivity improvement initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with legislative and statutory requirements

You are a self-motivated, proactive person who can lead teams with a high level of accountability. You will be able to anticipate business needs and react quickly to ensure production output targets are achieved and continuity of ore production is maintained. You can manage multiple demands on your time with a calm and considered manner, and have excellent interpersonal skills coupled with the ability to inspire others.  This would be a perfect ‘step up’ for any Senior Mining Engineer/Alternate UG Manager who has held the Alternate UG manager ticket and would like the chance to hold the Alternate Registered Manager’s ticket.

This will be supported by the following skills and experience:

  • Bachelor Mining Engineering BEng (minimum) or equivalent
  • First Class WA Mine Manager’s certificate of competency
  • Previous experience with narrow vein underground gold mining would be beneficial
  • Previous experience with contractor management would be beneficial
  • Previous experience in a Senior Position
  • Demonstrated understanding of mine planning
  • Ability to liaise and communicate effectively with different stakeholders in a dynamic environment
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work unsupervised and use initiative
  • Proficient use and application of MsOffice suite, and relevant mining software including Deswik or similar
  • “C” Class Driver’s licence
  • Dangerous Goods Security Card would be desirable

This is an exciting opportunity to step into a leadership role in both the UG Manager and Registered Manager areas in a small, fast paced and dynamic team environment.  This role is offered on an 8:6 roster FIFO from Perth or DIDO from Geraldton. Please note that all DIDO employees are required to live on camp for their full swing.

You must be based in Western Australia or willing to relocate to be considered for this role. To apply, please submit your resume and cover letter by clicking ‘Apply now’ and follow the prompts!

Silver Lake's preference is to deal with candidates directly and therefore agencies' applications will not be considered at this stage.
