An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology to join the team at Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital, in the heart of the beautiful New England / North West region of NSW. We are seeking an enthusiastic and capable Specialist Obstetrician and Gynaecologist to join our committed team to provide quality obstetric and gynaecological services to a diverse community. An attractive salary (in line with Staff Specialist State Award 2021), relocation package and subsidised temporary accommodation are available. The unit will be supported by registrars as middle grade doctors with possible rotations to John Hunter Hospital and other teaching units. An interest in colposcopy and/or maternal foetal medicine will be encouraged.

Located on the land of Kamilaroi/Gomeroi/Gamillaray people Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital is the second largest hospital in HNE Health and the key referral hospital for much of the north western region of HNE Health. The newly redeveloped hospital was opened in 2015 with state of art facilities across emergency, maternity, paediatrics, theatres, intensive care, coronary care, medical and surgical specialities, with 348 treatment spaces. The hospital has five operating theatres currently in operation and is supported by a modern Cancer Centre, sophisticated diagnostic services, along with comprehensive community and outpatient services. 

An opportunity exists for two specialist Obstetrician and Gynaecologists to join the team at Tamworth Hospital. 
In 2021 Tamworth Hospital birthed 1200 babies. The maternity service is Level 4 capability, with on-site Paediatrician support and Level 3 Special Care Nursery. We have a specialist service with a 20 bed maternity unit, 3 birth suites and 8 bed Special Care Nursery in a modern Rural Referral Hospital which provides specialist care to the northern region of Hunter New England LHD. Tamworth Hospital has two Staff Specialists (including a DDU trained Staff Specialist) and two Visiting Medical Officers currently working as part of the O&G team, supported by Accredited and Unaccredited trainees, Career Medical Officers, along with committed midwives, GP Obstetricians, RMOs, Aboriginal Mother and Infant Health Services and Allied Health clinicians. There is a visiting Maternal Foetal Medicine service from JHH and support across the training network. Outpatient clinics include antenatal, gynaecology, high risk obstetric, Aboriginal mothers and babies and colposcopy. Tamworth Hospital also provides a Level 4 Gynaecology service for up to and including major gynaecology procedures using open and laparoscopic surgery and 24/7 emergency service. There is regular access to theatres and clinics for any consultants joining our team in modern theatre and outpatient facilities. 

Tamworth Hospital is part of the Hunter New England LHD Women’s Health and Maternity Network and has support from John Hunter Hospital for mothers and babies requiring higher level specialist care.
